How are you feeling today my friend? Are your feelings battling against the truth you know deep in your soul?
Are you feeling overwhelmed?
If we take a moment to think about what being overwhelmed is – one of the definitions is having our thoughts and emotions overpowered.
Discouragement, anxiety, overwhelm, all seek to remove our focus from what is truth. The emotions associated with these feels like a wave crashing down over us as we get caught up in the swell.
When we are struggling to cope, trying to persevere in our own strength will cause us to break down under the weight, as we are not designed to carry burdens alone.
Jesus knows what it’s like to feel overwhelmed with sorrow, as described in Matthew 26:38.
When we feel this way, we are reminded in Psalm 142:3 that God will help us through it.
By choosing to hold on tightly to our Saviour’s hand, asking Him for help, what initially feels too much to bear, as though it’s tipping us over the edge, will feel more manageable, as we hand it over to the One who can handle all of our problems and show us the way.
- Do you feel squashed by worries? Stand boldly on God’s promises.
- Are you feeling weary? Rest in God’s green pastures.
- Are you feeling the heat of troubles? Seek shade under God’s glory.
- Are you feeling buffeted in the storm? Shelter in God’s love for you.
- Are you feeling discouraged? Put your hope in God and praise His holy name.
‘Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—
my Savior and my God!..’
Psalm 42:5-6 NLT
Thankfully Jesus is there by our side; who has overcome the world, shelters us through the storm, reminds us to hold onto Him when we feel like we are drowning, brings us rest when we are weary, and helps us keep our focus on His Light that leads the way through the darkness.
‘For it is you who light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness.’
Psalm 18:20 ESV
I invite you to spend some time today reflecting on the beauty of your Saviour and His faithful promises for you today and your future, as your life is secure in the hands of our unchanging God.
Please join me in prayer
Lord, I am so thankful that You are my hope. I am so grateful that You are there through whatever I face, I am not alone. When the storm feels too rough, I choose to depend on You. You are my strength, my protection, my light that lights up my darkness. Where I am feeling discouraged in my circumstances, please help me hold on tightly to You. I love You with all of my heart.
In Jesus’ name
