Lessons learned from bumblebees
I sat watching Brinkley (my dog) as he surveyed his land, sniffing the air and the wild flowers growing in the lawn.
The sun was hot with no cloud in the sky.
I looked around the garden to see if there was anything new to discover. Birds were busy gathering supplies for their young and new flowers were appearing on the nearby bushes.
I then looked over to the willow tree and saw the budding catkins beginning to bloom. The branches were covered with insects, feasting on the flower nectar.
I decided to take a closer look as I heard the hum of bumblebees.
Each bee was heavy-laden with sacks of golden pollen that shimmered in the afternoon light. They were busy collecting sustenance for their queen and nest. These workers were all about their purpose, and nothing could tear them away from their job at hand. They knew they needed this goodness to survive.
Reflecting on the importance of focusing on God’s goodness each day
As I studied the bumblebees legs, with their tiny combs, brushes and baskets used to gather and carry the pollen from flower to flower and take back to their home, I thought about the lessons we can learn and apply in our walk with God.
1. We need the daily nourishment of Truth, reflecting on God’s goodness, taking it with us wherever we go.
2. We also need to be aware of how disappointment, hurt, bitterness, anger and lies can affect us if not addressed properly with God’s help, as they cling to us and weigh us down, making it harder to see who we are created to be, questioning our identity, purpose and worth. Each painful experience if left unresolved ends up being added to the last raw wound, with the sole aim to draw away our attention from our Peace.
3. We need to fix our eyes on Love and Truth above all else, storing up the goodness offered to us by our Good God, like bumblebees collecting their treasure.
‘Because the Eternal is good, His loyal love and mercy will never end, and His truth will last throughout all generations.’ Ps 100:5 VOICE
Instead of allowing our hearts become like burs to pain, sorrow and lies, let’s make a point of fastening our hearts to Truth; carrying its sweet nectar wherever we go, for the glory of our King.
How has God’s goodness encouraged your heart this week?
Please join me in prayer:
We worship Your Holy Name.
We come before You with thankful hearts for Your goodness and the loving kindness you shower over us.
Please help us to reject the lies that seek to draw our attention away from You.
Please show us anything we need to bring before You.
May we grow in wisdom and discernment as we follow our Shepherd.
May we fasten our hearts to Your Truth and remember who we are in Your eyes.
With each new day, may we continue to search for You and take notice of Your glorious works.
