When the world says, “Give up,”
Hope whispers, “Try it one more time.”
When you turn on the TV, pick up a newspaper, listen to the radio, walk our streets, listen to our friends and family who are suffering… You can almost imagine a giant sign before you, with the poignant words written in bold – “No Hope Left”
This week in the news headlines, we have seen:
- Two un-armed female police officers being shot and killed while on duty.
- A family of 3 generations consisting of a grandmother, a 17 year old mother, and her new born baby, dying in a house fire.
- Mass graves found in Kenya
Each of us have a story to tell
You can look around the world and see poverty, famine, and wars that seem like they will never end, suffering on such a gigantic scale that it’s hard to comprehend.
In my past I have been through various valley and wilderness moments, (some of which I have mentioned, in previous posts, such as bullying) feeling like I am at the bottom of a giant slimy pit, that had no way out… I have had dreams that I thought would be a part of my life / our life, with my husband, that have felt like they have been torn away… sometimes I mourn this loss and my heart breaks…
When I think about the things I hoped I would be able to do, that have fallen away, sadness tries to cover me.
It’s easy to become disillusioned, to feel hopeless, wondering if there can possibly be a loving God, within brokenness, suffering and pain.
Where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me?
Job 17:16 NIV
My hope is Jesus
I have known hope all my life, in the background nudging me, even before I knew the hope giver personally. It has been there as my strength, when my world feels like it is collapsing around me. When circumstances scream hopelessness, Jesus walks in. I am truly grateful for this precious, eternal, gift from the heavens.
Hope is faith holding out its hand in the dark. ~George Iles
When we go through heartache we discover God’s abundant grace. As we sit at the feet of our Heavenly Father He pours His healing upon us, and touches us at our deepest need.
As we make our way on our life journey, God reaches down to us from the heavens when we need it the most, and our soul find rests in our Saviour.
“Heartache forces us to embrace God out of desperate, urgent need.
God is never closer than when your heart is aching.”
― Joni Eareckson Tada
As I read the Bible, so many times you see HOPE leaping from the pages, that helps you walk your path, with faith, joy, hope, and peace, right in the middle of a storm.
When I feel I can’t take any more, HOPE comes like a bright light, shining the way in the darkness.
One day I will be fully healed, in the presence of my Saviour. like the woman who reached out in faith, and touched the hem of Jesus’ cloak (Mark 5:34).
‘Having hope will give you courage. You will be protected and will rest in safety.’
Job 11:18 NLT
When I can’t go on, God picks me up in His hands of compassion, and carries me as I rest in His love. As I look behind me, I only see footprints of my Lord and Saviour, and before me streams of everlasting life.
‘For we have been saved in this hope and for this future.
But hope does not involve what we already have or see.
For who goes around hoping for what he already has.’
Romans 8:24 The voice
When hope feels like it is outside of my reach, I look to My Lord who died on the cross for us. As He took His last breath, hope felt that it had died too. Three days later hope sprung to life, and all creation sung a new song; as hope defeated hopelessness. Where there once was death, there was now everlasting life.
Hope had never disappeared, it was sitting quietly for the perfect time to blossom and rejoice in praises for the King of Kings, the Lord of hope that still speaks into our hearts, two thousand years later.
Hope is always there, we just have to look for it, at the throne of grace and mercy and the empty cross.
‘I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.’
Isaiah 42:16 NIV
Do you feel that there is no hope left? Reach out to the Lord of hope, His name is Jesus
Please join me in prayer
I praise You that You are the Lord of hope.
When I feel hopeless, sadness creeping in, help me to see the great hope I have in You.
I surrender and lay my life before You.
Lord, I want to know you more, teach me Your ways.
May Your truth reign down within my heart.
May Your hope shine brightly through my thoughts, words, and actions.
May Your name be proclaimed throughout the earth.
In Your name,
