What battles are you facing today?
Today, we will spend time speaking God’s truth over our battles. I share a guided reflection, using Scripture, images, music and questions for you to prayerfully think about. My hope and prayer is that it will help you with whatever battles you are facing at the moment.
Put some time aside. Collect your Bible, journal/notebook and pen. Light a candle if you find this helpful. Make yourself comfortable. When you are ready, begin with the first step and go through the rest in quiet reflection.
Prayer to begin
I can’t find the words to fully express just how thankful I am that you know everything about me.
You know where I have been, what I am going through, and where I am heading.
You know it all.
I praise You, for You are my Helper, Comforter, Strengthener and Friend.
As You know, I am in need of Your help through this latest battle I am going through.
My heart aches, fear is trying its best to shake me, I am weary and in need of a breakthrough.
I look to You my Lord, my Saviour.
Where things may feel hopeless, I am so thankful that You are my HOPE.
As I spend time with You in quiet reflection, may I become more aware of Your everlasting presence surrounding me, encircling me, lifting me, encouraging me….
I open my heart to You, I wait on You for You to work in me and through me for Your glory.
Thank You Jesus
1. What battles are you facing today?
Spend some time in prayer, sharing how you are feeling – your worries and concerns, with Jesus.
Picture Him beside you as you talk with Him.
Ask Jesus to speak to you, as you go through the following reflection with Him.
Q: Which particular characteristic of your Helper are you in need of today?
‘…I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever—’ John 14:16 AMP
3. Reflect on the following image – how does God equip you for battle?
4. What does God promise to help you with as you lean into Him through this battle?
Spend time in God’s Word, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to a promise of His love, grace, power, victory … to encourage you in this particular battle.
Q: Have you been trying to cope in your own strength? Talk to God about it.
‘… I want to remind you that your strength must come from the Lord’s mighty power within you.” Eph 6:10 TLB
6. Reflect on the following image – how does it make you feel?
If you enjoy being creative – doodle, draw, paint, make something, write a poem, dance… as an expression of Romans 5:5
Personalise the Scripture. For example –
Yes! Hope doesn’t disappoint me! For my Heavenly Father has poured His everlasting, unfailing love into my heart through the gift of the Holy Spirit, who was given to me when I said YES to Jesus, and He became my Saviour and Lord of my life. I know He will help me.
Spend time in worship
Ask God to help you focus completely on Him.
Suggested song – No longer slaves to fear.
Q: What words stood out for you?
Note them down in your journal.
6. Reflect on the following image – How does it speak into your heart?
Q: How does God’s Word bring light into your battles?
7. How has God helped you in the past that encourages you to remember He will help you again?
Think back to how God has helped you in the past.
Take a blank page in your journal and draw a line down the centre. On the left add what the problem was, and on the right, add how God helped you deal with it. What are the key things?
8. Reflect on the following image – How does it encourage you?
Q: In what other ways could you add God’s Word into your daily life, to encourage you to keep your focus on Him?
Q: How does God’s gift of grace sustain you through this battle?
“My grace is enough to cover and sustain you. My power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Cor 12:9 Voice
You are not alone my friend.
As you worship God, allow the truth that you don’t need to face this battle alone flow over you and in you.
Q: What did God bring to your attention through this song?
11. How does God’s truth and unfailing love strengthen you to persevere in this battle?
We tend to be kinder to others than ourselves. Write a letter to yourself, as if you were writing to a dear friend, to encourage and remind yourself that you are not alone in your battles.
12. Reflect on the following image – How does God’s promises speak hope into your situation?
13. What will you trust into His care today?
‘All who fear and know the Eternal, put your trust in Him. He is their helper and defender.’ Ps 115:11 VOICE
Finish in prayer – wrapping up what you have reflected on, God’s truth spoken into your heart, and give thanks.
I hope you have found this to be a helpful.
