God’s strength in our weakness
As I wandered around Westonbirt Arboretum I saw this amazing tree; a Douglas Fir tree, known as a Tower of Strength.
I stood at the bottom craning my neck as I looked up noting the detail of the bark of the towering trunk, and along the heavy laden branches.
Britain’s tallest tree is a Douglas Fir in Scotland, standing at an amazing height of 209 feet. I don’t know how tall this one was, roughly 32 feet I think, but you can tell from the photo just how huge it was. It was so large I couldn’t manage to capture the whole tree in one frame.
As you stood next to it, you couldn’t help feel small in comparison, but you felt safe, shaded by the evergreen branches, providing wonderful shelter.
For these trees to survive they need good strong root systems, light, and nourishment. Something we also need in our relationship with God.
Due to the valuable resources of this tree, it’s under threat.
Are there things in your life that has made you weary?
Where our strength fades, God’s is infinite.
Today I invite you to join me as we kneel before God’s throne, and give Him the things you are struggling with, where you feel weary and weak. Allow Him to provide you shelter, and restore your strength, as you depend on Him.
As you draw near to our God – our Tower of Strength, He will strengthen you. When you feel like you are at breaking point, He wants to refresh you, and heal the places that hurt.
Are you weary and heavy hearted?
What can you offer our Lord with all of your heart today? Reach out to Him and hold onto His hope, strength and grace. For His grace is sufficient for us, His power made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor 12:9).
‘He is my unfailing love and my citadel.
He is my tower of strength and my deliverer.
He is my shield of protection and my shelter;
He holds my people in check under me.’
Psalm 144:2 The Voice
Let’s spend some time in worship
Please join me in prayer
Lord, In the words of David, ‘I love you, LORD, my strength’*. Thank You that You are my Tower of Strength and my Deliverer. Where I am weary, please restore and refresh me in Your Holy presence. I give to You………………………… and ask please help me to rely on Your strength alone. I want my roots to be strong, standing on Your strong foundation. I want to be fed by Your Word of life, and soak in Your Living waters. I am so thankful that You are my Shield and my Shelter in the storms.
